Christmas in July - Free knitting pattern

Hi everyone, if anyone, I sit here on a very hot and humid July day and have started to think about my Christmas. Knitters know that this isn't strange and that actually I might just be a little late in this pursuit. So, if you can stop thinking about the President having guests over for beer and the swine flu, I have some Christmas present thoughts and ideas for you.

First of all, the free pattern; it is for this pirate hat and the free pattern came from the world of Ravelry (http://ravelry.com/). I have uploaded the pattern to my google site and the link is to the left side panel on the blog under free patterns. This is where I will put any free patterns that I personally like for your benefit. The web is full of free patterns, so I am only storing those I use or plan to use, of which the old pirate hat is one and also the inspiration for the name of this blog. This is the hat that my husband insists on having, maybe for Christmas.

Knitting for Christmas can be fun, but also can become stressful especially if you are a slow knitter as I am. I found a wonderful solution this year at Knitpicks (http://knitpicks.com/), which is an online yarn store. I do not get any compensation from knitpicks for mentioning them by the way, I only mention places I like and use myself. They have lace yarn samplers with free patterns for a scarf and/or a shawl. In one sampler you can make 5 scarves (good for Christmas) or one shawl with complimentary colors. It is lace and knit by a chart, much to my dispair, so I hope the folks at Yarn Outlet in Pawtucket can guide me along that road.
The pirate sweater is getting to the start of the skull so I'll be at Yarn Outlet probably for help on that. Grandson coming here in October so want it to be all done for him.
I will write more frequently now. It has been an unusual summer, some of which I will be writing about. Please email me if you like. pbquig@yahoo.com
